According to the Blackpool Gazette reporting from this years ShowZam, escapologist Danny Hunt had a close shave when his illusion went wrong. Here’s what they say:

The escapologist suffered an injury to his left arm after taking on a bed of sharp metal spikes at Louis Tussauds’ in the resort. The modern-day Houdini was handcuffed, padlocked and chained to a bed before being given two minutes to escape before the 500 pound spikes came crashing down.

An expectant crowd could see Danny’s hand poking out through a curtain as he fought for freedom. As the countdown ran out and spikes came slamming down they heard a blood curdling scream.

He said: “After seven years of not performing it, I now realise why.

“I got worried just as those spikes came crashing down and caught me on the arm. But I’m still alive and I actually got out, which is what it is all about.

“That is definitely it now, 100 per cent, the last time I do that unless someone is paying me the right type of money.”
